A Fishy Tale

A haddock had had it he lay on the deck
Breathing his last and twitching his neck,
Thinking his thoughts of celestial seas
Where dolphins and dogfish do just as they please:
The murmur of mermaids, the shimmering sharks,
Where meals are just weeds on the seabed's parks,
Where fishermen fry in sizzling fat
Instead of the fish to feed the cat,
Where hooks and nets are not admired.
And thinking these thoughts the haddock expired.
