Edward, (aka Ted) Hayes was born in Hereford, England, in 1914. His first two years were spent in France, then the family moved to London. Shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War Ted joined the RAF, where he became a bomb-aimer in Halifax aircraft. Ted met and married his wife Beryl in 1946, and the couple had two daughters. After being demobbed Ted trained as a Primary School Teacher, continuing in that role until retirement.
Ted now lives in Uppingham in the County of Rutland.
